New Year’s Resolution – Healthy Eyes

New Year’s Resolution – Healthy Eyes

Both Christmas and New Year are very exciting times, and with that comes a time for change, a time for an optimistic outlook on the year ahead.

What’s your New Year’s Resolution?

It’s no secret that with the New Year comes a new goal, your New Year’s Resolution. Many people use this time to accomplish something they have always wanted to do like skydiving or visiting a certain country. Others will do something that will better their health like taking up running or cutting back on calories. With that in mind, why not help protect something you use everyday without a thought, your eyes.

There are many things that you can do to help protect your eyes. Here are a few simple tips:

Make an appointment to see your optician

When trying to protect your eyes, this should be one of the first things on your to do list. Getting a simple eye test will tell you how well your eyes are doing and whether or not you need glasses. It can even uncover underlying medical conditions such as diabetes and infections.

Eat your way to healthy eyes

Whilst you are at your eye test, you can ask your optician what foods make for healthier eyes. You can help fight off age-related vision problems by eating foods rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, Zinc, and Vitamins C and E. You can find these in foods like:

  • Citrus fruits and berries.
  • Green, leafy vegetables.
  • Oily fish like tuna and salmon.

Take a break from electronics

With a computer in nearly every home and a phone in nearly every hand, more strain is being put upon the eyes. Looking at electronics for a long period of time can cause headaches, neck and shoulder pain, eye strain and even blurry vision. It is best to rest your eyes every 20-30 minutes.

All of us here at Infinity Eye Clinic wish you a very happy and healthy New Year!
